The same expansive customization features are again in the mode, which still makes it an overall positive for the game, but it's still missing some personality.Ī Raw and Smackdown pre-show would add some punch and flavor.
You can give or watch Superstars experience a push and the promo battles are better executed. There are a few new wrinkles to Universe mode. There was no major impact on the match, but it was worth noting. Seconds into my attack, Cass oddly wound up on top of Gallows' shoulders for a second. I chose to break out during Gallows and Anderson's entrance. There was also a weird occurrence in a tag-team match between Enzo and Cass and Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. For example, in one match, Kane morphed through the ropes and outside of the ring during a battle royal. It caused him to be eliminated from the match. There are still a few glitches in matches. Most of the negative aspects of WWE 2K18 aren't as significant as the positives, but they still should be mentioned. Overall, this mode adds a necessary layer to the M圜areer concept and to the game on a whole.

WWE 2K18 Road to Glory Credit: Brian Mazique (WWE 2K18) It also helps that the mode has a spinoff in RTG. The different challenges you encounter on your road to the top are entertaining enough to keep you from getting bored quickly. There's a new promo engine that works a little better than last year's dry execution. It mostly works and keeps you engaged with your character and allows you an opportunity to interact with other Superstars. The environment a switches from show or PPV event venue to WWE Performance Center while you're in NXT and the base (so to speak) changes once you get to the WWE. In addition to embarking on a journey to lead your character to the WWE Hall of Fame, there's also a sister mode of sorts called Road to Glory.įirst, let's talk about M圜areer. The M圜areer mode is much deeper now than it has been in previous years. It's a really nice touch that requires a skillful hand and eye, but still a solid addition. There's also a new create-a-video feature that allows you to make custom entrance visuals for the Titantron or even prerolls for your custom shows. This year there are more templates to choose from including indie gyms and ballrooms. The create-an-arena feature is almost as verbose as the CAW. It makes the create-a-player system in NBA 2K18 all the more disappointing, but I digress. You can create your own stitching, upload custom logos, faces to use for created wrestlers, and more. We're talking about multi-layered clothing with each piece potentially containing a different fabric–all under your control. As I went through all of the options, I couldn't believe all of the things I could change and sculpt. The create-a-wrestler feature is insanely deep. It literally feels as if there are no limitations. Like NBA 2K's MyLeague and Madden's Draft Champions, the mode is the pinnacle of its sub-genre. If there were a Hall of Fame for modes within in a sports game, WWE 2K18's creation suite would be worthy of enshrinement.
